TAXILA: Nine members of a family were hospitalised after consuming contaminated drinks in Dhoke Miskeen, Hassanabdal on Saturday.

Rescue sources said all the family members fell unconscious after consuming the drink. They were taken to the nearby Tehsil Headquarters Hospital where they are now said to be stable and out of danger.

Later, the head of the family, Ishfaq Ahmed reported to the police that he bought cold drinks of a famous beverage company from a shop run by one Zakir Ullah, situated at a bus stand.

He said his family members and some guests fell unconscious after consuming it.

The Hassanabdal police registered a case against the shopkeeper and started further investigations.

Talking to media persons, the affected family members demanded the district administration take strict action against the suppliers, dealers and shopkeepers who supply such drinks.

Doctors said the patients were recovering and will soon be discharged.

The family members affected include 10-year-old Shahzaib, Israr Ahmed aged 12, Mohammad Irfan aged 19, Adlat Khan aged 22, Mohammad Saleem aged 60, Taj Begum aged 26, Mahnoor aged 11, Nazima Bibi aged 22 and Asma Bibi aged 16.
