Ton-up Asad powers Pakistan CC into final

LAHORE: A fine unbeaten century by Test batsman Asad Shafiq and good support from his Pakistan team-mate Shan Masood helped Karachi’s Pakistan Cricket Club qualify for the final of the PCB Fazal Mahmood Inter-club Cricket Championship with a crushing nine-wicket win over Lahore’s Model Town Club at the LCCA Ground here on Wednesday.

Needing 243, Pakistan Cricket Club romped to victory in the 36th over as Asad blasted 107 from 15 balls with the aid of 11 fours and two sixes, while Shan hit 94 off 100 balls with the aid of 11 boundaries as the duo added 174 for the unbroken second-wicket partnership.

Rameez Raja was the only man out in the innings after scoring a 36-ball 40 (seven fours and one six).

Earlier, a century by young Asim Ali Nasir (119 off 116 balls, eight fours and six sixes) and skipper Saad Nasim (72 off 91, nine fours) enabled Model Town Club collect 242-7 in their 50 overs after Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed, who also leads his club team, chose to field first at the toss.

Pakistan Cricket Club will face Tony Brothers Club of Sialkot in the final on Friday at the same venue

Shahzar stars with blistering knock

KARACHI: Shahzar Hasan excelled with a dazzling half-century as Al-Hamza Sports condemned Hawks Academy to their second straight defeat in the T20 Royal Premier League at the RLCA Gulberg Ground here on Wednesday.

Batting first, Al-Hamza Sports reached an imposing 189-7. Opener Ahmed Hussain smashed 67 off 42 balls upfront with the aid of seven fours and four sixes before Shahzar dominated with a 48-ball knock of 83 that included five fours and four sixes.

Ahmed and Shahzar shared in a third-wicket partnership of 95.

Slow left-armers Dawood Khan and medium-pacer Naimat Khan bagged two wickets each.

Hawks Academy, who lost the tournament opener to Rangoonwala by six wickets on Monday, ended up making 144-6 in their response to the chase. Naimat (unbeaten 45 off 24 balls, three sixes and two fours) and Taj Wali (40 off 38, five boundaries) were the main run-getters.

Slow left-armer Bilawal Malik and seamer Shahid Mirani grabbed two wickets each.

Shahzar was later declared man-of-the-match and received his award from Asim Ali, brand manager of Medicam Group.

Pakistan blank India 16-0 in Asian baseball

LAHORE: Pakistan whipped India 16-0 in the 10th BFA Under-12 Asian Baseball Championship 2018 in Taiwan on Wednesday.

Pakistan had also beaten Hong Kong 4-1 the other day.

Junaid Shah scored four runs followed by Mohammad Adil Ayub (3) while Abdul Raziq, Syed Muhib Shah, Aashir Abbas and Akmal Shah all made two each.—Sports Reporter

PESHAWAR: Nowshera Zalmi Greens beat Khyber Zalmi by seven wickets to win the Zalmi Azadi Cup on Tuesday. Khyber Zalmi Greens, put into bat, made 151 with Rehan Afridi scoring 40. Nowshera Zalmi Greens reached their target easily.
