THIS refers to the letter ‘Husain Lawai’ (July 15) by Rafi Ahmed. I appreciate his human sense calling for relaxations in rules of handcuffing him considering his age and services to Pakistan.
There is another side to this situation. We as a nation get sentimental when someone of Husain Lawai’s stature is dealt with in a way in which an ordinary Pakistani is dealt with day in day out.
One should not forget that services to Pakistan while being paid for is no philanthropy. It is a criminal act to become instrumental in money laundering or becoming facilitator at any level. What does punishment mean if we consider immunity for everyone with white collar crimes? Who deserves punishment then?
