Armyman killed in Indian shelling

SIALKOT, Jan 9: A jawan of the Chenab Rangers was martyred in mortar shelling by Indian troops in Shakargarh sector early on Wednesday morning.

Official sources said Niaz Ahmad was posted at Peeka Chak post when some mortar shells hit him, killing him on the spot.

They said two Indian troops were also killed while a heavy ammunition vehicle and several bunkers were destroyed when Chenab Rangers retaliated in Saamba and Shakargarh sectors.

The firing between the Chenab Rangers and Indian forces was continuing till the filing of this report late in the evening.

The shelling also badly damaged 32 more houses in villages in Chhumb Joriyaan, Bajwat, Harpal, Charwa, Sucheetgarh, Jammu, Zafarwal and Shakargarh sectors.
