A day after being demoted from Category A to B in PCB's list of centrally contracted players, veteran cricketer Mohammad Hafeez is reportedly considering retirement from international cricket, DawnNewsTV reported.
Hafeez, 37, had been a perennial recipient of the Pakistan Cricket Board's top category contract, but that changed on Monday when his place in the highly exclusive group of six was given to rising star Babar Azam.
That hasn't gone down well with Hafeez, who, according to sources close to him, is now disillusioned due to "discriminatory treatment" and, as a result, "cannot continue to keep on playing.
"Mohammad Hafeez will not sign the central contract."
Perhaps to add credence to the "discriminatory" argument, the source recalled that coach Mickey Arthur had dropped Hafeez in the first four matches of last month's ODI series against Zimbabwe.
"Hafeez had then refused to play the fifth match in protest," the source added.

He should have been awarded D category due to his consistent low performing score both as a bowler and as a batsman. New talent should be given a chance as we are bored of watching him with zero performance in every other match.

Hafeez should realise his contribution to Pakistan Team lately and opt out of the team gracefully.
He is not getting younger and with 2019 World Cup in cross hairs, very unlikely to make the grade on merit.

I think the writing is on the wall for Hafeez's Pakistan career with the young crop of players and his bowling not being what it used to be before the action adjustments.
All in all, he has been a decent servant to the team (as an all-rounder, particularly when our team was going through some tough times his bowling was one of the consistently good things we had going for us). I just wish our players, team managements and board learn to handle retirements with more dignity and respect.

Better to take a look on performance instead of experience. The performance of Hafiz is not at the level where he should be part of playing eleven. Shadab is a better choice and he has been showing his skills with the bat as well

Considering retirement talks about the mentality of the player. In India Dhoni has also been removed from A list and put in B list of contracted players since over a year now. But he has never made an issue out of it. It is your humbleness which will make a mark rather than the feeling of disparity.

Hafeez is getting the taste of his own medicine. No one has forgotten what he did to Abdul Razzaq. Also he is not at an age where he can pick and choose to play when he wants. If he was given a chance to play in the fifth match, he should have taken it and make a mark for himself to prove.

Agreed that he has played enough and should make room for youngsters. However in my opinion PCB needs to come up with a strategy to make the retirement and departures of senior players in a befitting and systematic manner. They should not leave in an unhappy mood instead it should be an event to recognize and celebrate their achievements. The case in point is Shahid Afridi who did so much for cricket and cricket lovers but I believe he also left in a somewhat un happy and dejected mood. - something needs to change.
