LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader Aleem Khan appeared before the National Accountability Bureau here on Monday and recorded his statement in connection with an inquiry into his assets which are allegedly beyond his known sources of income.

Mr Khan, who was summoned by the NAB Lahore for Aug 8, said he appeared before a joint investigation team of the bureau beforehand on his own to provide a relevant record to it. “I also replied to questions of the investigators,” he said.

NAB has been probing Aleem Khan in different inquiries, including an offshore company.

Meanwhile, NAB chairman retired Justice Javed Iqbal directed the bureau’s Lahore office to complete investigation into 56 public companies and submit a report to the Supreme Court shortly.

During a meeting with the Lahore bureau officials, the NAB chairman was briefed on corruption cases against Kyiaban-i-Amin housing society, NBP vice president Usman Saeed, Azgaurd Nine and Agri Tech companies, Hammad Arshad of Glubaco and fraud in shareholders of EOBI and Bank of Punjab.

Justice Iqbal directed the officials concerned to complete investigation in all cases, especially the mega ones, at the earliest. He said the looted amount should be recovered from the suspects and handed over to the affected persons and the departments concerned. He said NAB over the last nine months had recovered Rs2,200 million and returned to the affectees and arrested 300 suspects. He appreciated the performance of the bureau’s Lahore director general Shahzad Saleem.
