THE WEEK THAT WAS

Ki Jaana Mein Kaun | Hum TV, Wed-Thurs 9.10pm

An intriguing story by writers Uzma Iftikhar and Furqan Sahir on the tricky subject of adoption. The world comes crashing down for the beautiful business graduate Mehr (Minal Khan) on her wedding day when she discovers that she is adopted. Mehr’s in-laws refuse to wed their son Taimur (Saad Qureshi) to someone whose origin may be dubious and instead marry him off to his cousin, the spiteful Anaya (Yashma Gill) at the same time and venue.

Seeing Mehr shattered, best friend and cousin Faris (Faizan Khawaja) resolves to marry her while Mehr braves the decision to go to Taimur and Anaya’s wedding, where the story takes another turn when would-have-been mum-in-law tells her that the person who brought her home 24 years ago was none other than Maliha, her paternal aunt (Zainab Qayyum). This also creates a mess in Maliha’s life as her mean-as-hell husband Kazim (Adnan Jilani) demands that she bring evidence of Mehr’s real parents or take oath at Taimur’s valima that Mehr is not her illegitimate daughter.

Meri Gurya | ARY, Wednesdays 8-10pm

Radain Shah’s bold and heart-wrenching story began on a grim note with the police examining the mutilated body of a little girl who had been raped and murdered, sending the entire neighbourhood into deep shock. Husband Sajid Ali and mum-in-law Aisha Khan are forever reprimanding Sania Saeed (Shehnaz) for sending two girls to school which incurs expenses, but she is okay with sending the third, Abida, to a madressah since it is free.

Dabeer (Mohsin Abbas Haider) has a disturbingly calm exterior, a cupboard full of dolls, and a growing obsession for little Abida. He is looking for a divorce soon after his marriage to Safeena (Soniya Husain), a badminton player who makes her in-laws uncomfortable because she has a mind and can speak for herself. After two of his schemes to get his hands on Abida fail, Dabeer’s getting impatient and weirder. There is lots of suspense and thrill, but watch only if you are strong-hearted because Dabeer gives you goosebumps.

What To Watch Out For

Zofeen finds herself taking the plunge with Izer. Raaym likes Zofeen but Izer takes everyone by surprise by declaring his love for her. Zofeen and Izer get married and go off for their honeymoon.
