IN what appears to be the most closely contested election in Pakistan’s history, election fever has gripped the country. With the PPP no longer a force to be reckoned with, the main battle is between the PML-N and the PTI.

The PML-N seems to be losing its popularity among the masses with the recent conviction and jailing of Nawaz Sharif for possessing assets beyond his known sources of income. Many people consider the PTI as the favourite to win the election.

However, Imran Khan can be seen using derogatory language against others and is known for his sit-in politics. One can also argue that the elections seem to be manipulated by certain forces, arguably to bring the PTI to power.

Whether the PTI wins the election owing to its popularity or because other parties are not being given a level playing field remains to be seen. No matter which political party you support, the most important thing is to go out on election day and vote for the continuation of democracy in our country.
