THE Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s information secretary has said that the July 25 general elections are going to be the fairest in the country’s history. This was also reported in the July 15 issue of Dawn. The irony is that this is the same election commission which had earlier been subjected to all kinds of invective and diatribes by the supreme leader of PTI since the 2013general election.

Since the 2013 election, the PTI — till recently — has constantly criticised the election commission, accusing it of favouring the PML-N. The PTI’s ire in this regard knew no bounds. It is incomprehensible that suddenly out of the blue the PTI information secretary has expressed his party’s complete satisfaction over the election commission’s performance in next week’s polls. What has happened? Perhaps the PTI leadership has seen the writing on the wall, or maybe their supplications to the all mighty have been answered by a visit from the angels.
