KARACHI: President Ayub, who is also President of Pakistan Muslim League, exhorted the Muslim League workers to spend all their energies in maintaining and accelerating the tempo of economic progress.

Addressing a gathering at the airport yesterday [July 19] he reminded them of their illustrious predecessors, who, he said, had waged relentless struggle in the form of the 1857 War of Independence, Khilafat Movement and the Pakistan Movement to achieve the lofty ideals set forth for the salvation of Mussalmans in the subcontinent. Like them, the Muslim League workers, too, should work selflessly....

President Ayub Khan also exhorted women to work with greater zeal for the strength and consolidation of Pakistan. He said that more active participation by the women in the country’s affairs would ensure speedier and more sustained progress as women formed 50 per cent of the country’s population. The President advised men not to consider women as their rivals. Instead, he said, men should associate women in day-to-day affairs and give them all the encouragement that is due.
