ISLAMABAD: Amir Ahmad Ali has been appointed the new director general (DG) of immigration and passport department.

The post had been lying vacant after the former DG, Ishrat Ali, was appointed Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman on June 30.

Interestingly Ishrat Ali’s predecessor, Usman Bajwa, had also left the department to join CDA as its chairman.

Amir Ahmad Ali, a grade 20 officer, has a rich administrative experience. He served as deputy commissioner Islamabad for almost six years starting from 2007, with a break of three months in 2009 when he was made officer on special duty (OSD).

Before his appointment as deputy commissioner, he also served the city as additional deputy commissioner general (ASCG)

In 2013, he was appointed CDA’s member administration. Later he was appointed the joint secretary, Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination and also given the acting charge of Pakistan Sports Board director general after Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera retired on Feb 28.
