PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority officials on Friday raided the Khyber Teaching Hospital and sealed its four canteens and two juice shops.

Attaullah Khan, a spokesperson of the authority, told Dawn that all the canteens of the hospital had already been sealed over unhygienic conditions on Thursday, but the managers had illegally opened these without improving the condition.

He said the outlets would remain closed at least for seven days and would be de-sealed after payment of fine from Rs25,000 to Rs100,000.

“In case they violate the law once again then FIR will be registered against the owners and the matter will go to relevant court to award punishment to the violators,” he added.

He said all the canteens were forcefully closed, and the cooked menu was taken into custody and later distributed among the patients and attendants in the hospital.

He said the canteen managers were forcing the administration to reopen the canteens, but said the canteens would remain closed till compliance.
