HARIPUR: A young transgender individual was shot and injured during a kidnapping attempt, police said here on Wednesday.

The injured was referred to Ayub Teaching Hospital Abbottabad for treatment.

Police quoted Nisha Suleman, a resident of Sikandar Pur village, as saying that she was at her residential quarter alone when Malik Nafees accompanied by another man forcibly entered her residence.

She said the accused who was drunk first harassed her sexually and then attempted to put her in the car parked outside.

However, according to Nisha, when she put up resistance, the accused got infuriated and opened fire at her and one of the bullets pierced through her left thigh.

On the complaint of the victim the Haripur police registered a criminal case against the attacker, but had yet to arrest him.

Meanwhile, president she male association, Haripur, Saima Shaukat has condemned the kidnapping and murder attempt on Nisha.

She said despite repeated complaints the local police had yet to provide them security against harassment and attacks. She demanded complete protection and early arrest of the accused.
