KARACHI, Jan 9: An accountability court reserved order on Wednesday in a corruption reference against Rauf B. Qadri, a former president of the Bankers’ Equity.
Judge Dr. Qamaruddin Bohra of the AC-1 fixed Jan 17 for pronouncement of the verdict after the defence and prosecution concluded their arguments.
The reference against Mr Qadri pertained to misappropriation of Rs15.222 million through fake transactions.
Shafi Muhammedi appeared on behalf of the accused and Shaukat Hiyat represented the prosecution.
CONVICTED: The additional district and sessions judge, East, Shamshad Qazi, sentenced two drug peddlers to suffer rigorous imprisonment for two-and-a-half years.
Zar Shah and Jahanzeb were arrested in November last by the Gulistan-i-Jauhar police, who seized 20 grams of heroin each from them.
The judge also imposed a fine of Rs5,000 on the drug peddlers and he ordered that the defaulter on the payment would have to undergo an additional six-month term.
Meanwhile, the judicial magistrate, West, S. M. Taqi, sentenced a man to suffer one-year term for possessing unlicensed weapon.
Accused Sardar, arrested on Jan 24 last year by the CIA Saddar, was also fined Rs5,000. The judge ordered that the convict would have to undergo an additional three-month term in case of default on the payment.
BAIL GRANTED: The additional district and sessions judge, East, Syed Kauser Ali Bukhari, granted bail to an alleged forger in the sum of Rs100,000.
Accused Zulfiqar was booked by the New Town Police for possessing a device used for punching the engine numbers, a bunch of car keys and several registration books.
He was arrested by SI Ghulam Rasool on Oct 29.
