KARACHI, June 1: Justice Amir Hani Muslim of the Sindh High Court, who is also administrative judge of the Anti-Terrorism Courts in Karachi, on Wednesday remanded an activist of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi in police custody till June 8 in the Madinatul Ilm mosque suicide bombing case.
Tehseen alias Arshad, now hospitalized, was one of the attackers, arrested by police in injured condition after a shootout on May 30.
His accomplice Asif was killed while the suspected suicide bomber, who has not been identified yet, blew himself up in the veranda of the mosque situated in Block-5 of Gulshan-i-Iqbal.
One accomplice of the attackers as however fled the scene. A policeman and two worshippers were also killed and more than 30 others wounded in the suicide bombing, which sparked violence in the city.—PPI
SENT TO JAIL: The judicial magistrate, East, Hifzur Rehman, remanded 53 people in jail custody on Tuesday. The suspects, including Safdar Rizvi, Ghulam Sabir and Mohammed Raza, were arrested for violent activities on Sunday by the Sharea Faisal police, adds staff reporter.
The judge ordered the jail authorities to produce the suspects on June 14 before the court.
SENTENCED: The judicial magistrate, South, Anwar Ahmed, sentenced a man to suffer a three-year term for possessing an illegal weapon.
The judge also imposed a fine of Rs1,000 on Abdus Samad Irani, who would have to undergo an additional one-month term in case of default on payment.
The accused was arrested and booked under Section 13-D of the Arms Ordinance by the Kalri police in 2003.
