PESHAWAR: The Jamaat-i-Islami, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter, on Friday awarded poll tickets in the province and the Fata for the July 25 general elections.

The JI candidates will contest elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from the platform of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, while from the party’s platform in Fata. The religious parties’ alliance is restricted to the province as JI and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F have different stances on the merger of Fata with KP.

According to a statement issued here, the JI awarded 10 poll tickets for the national assembly, 37 for the provincial assembly and 12 for the NA seats in Fata.

The names were announced by the JI provincial chief Mushtaq Ahmed Khan during a meeting held at Markaz-i-Islami here. The meeting was also attended by provincial secretary general Abdul Wasia, provincial naib emir Dr Iqbal Khalil, Sahibzada Haroon Rasheed, Norul Haq, and JI Fata secretary general Mohammad Rafiq Afridi, according to a statement.

The statement said JI had fielded majority of its candidates in Malakand division.
