KARACHI: A ninth-class student, who was in the list of missing persons maintained by the home department of Sindh and for whose recovery the family had filed a petition before the Sindh High Court, was in fact kidnapped and killed by suspects linked with Lyari’s gangs in 2016 in a Malir locality, said a Rangers spokesperson on Thursday.

The official added that in the light of a report on missing persons from the Sindh home department, the paramilitary force conducted an action in a Malir locality and arrested one suspect, Asadullah.

During the initial probe, the held suspect revealed that he along with his other accomplices had kidnapped the ninth-class student, Yasin, alias Munna, in Imam Bux market in Malir during the night of May 30 in 2016.

Subsequently, they handed over the kidnapped student to gangsters in the Darsano Channo area linked with the Lyari gang warfare.

On the same night, the gangsters subjected the student to “worst torture” and strangled him to death and buried him in a nearby area.

On information gained from the arrested suspect, the paramilitary force arrested two more gangsters namely Ali Nawaz and Lal Mohammed, alias Lalu, who “confessed” to killing Yasin and burying his coffin there.

On information gained from them, a joint team of police and Rangers exhumed the body from Ali Hamal Goth of Darsano Channo, which was sent for DNA test.

The lab report confirmed that it was the body of the kidnapped student.

The Rangers official pointed out that the victim’s parents had filed a petition before the SHC, which was later on disposed of in the light of evidence while the arrests of the suspects showed that the student was murdered in 2016.

The three arrested suspects belonged to Ghafoor Choto (killed) and Sajjad, alias Golo, gang of Lyari. The arrested suspects were handed over to the police for further legal action.

11-member gang of dacoits busted

The Pakistan Rangers Sindh on Thursday claimed to have arrested 11 members of a dacoits’ gang, who were allegedly involved in crimes in several localities.

Acting on a tip-off, the paramilitary force carried out an action in Ayub Goth of Gadap Town and arrested 11 suspected criminals.

This gang was involved in street crimes, house and shop robberies in Gadap Town, North Nazimabad, North Karachi and Surjani Town, said the official.

The ringleader of the gang was Amir Baloch while other arrested suspects were identified as Kashif, Shabbir, Jehanzeb, Ghulam Qambar, Ashiq Ali, Ubaid, Salman, Saif Ali, Mohammed Tariq and Umair.

During the initial probe, the arrested suspects revealed that they had looted Rs1 million from a home in Khamiso Goth of New Karachi with the help of a woman. The efforts were under way to arrest their accomplice woman.

The Rangers claimed that they had seized arms and ammunition from them.

The suspects were handed over to the police for further legal action.
