KARACHI: Sindh caretaker Minister for Inform­ation Jameel Yusuf on Tue­sday asked the director of the information department to rationalise the disbursement of advertisements.

He issued this directive during a meeting which discussed various ways and means to bring reforms in the department. The meeting was atte­nded by newly posted information department Secre­tary Qazi Shahid Perv­aiz and all directors of the department, said a statement.

The minister reviewed the functioning of each directorate of the information depa­rtment. He stres­sed that advertisements must be given on merit keeping in view the regularity and circulation of newspapers.

He also called for revisiting the process of pre-qualification of advertising agencies held recently and submit report along with recommendations.

He said that entire details of advertisement-related ma­t­ters, including distribution of advertisements and payments, should be placed on the website of the information department to ens­ure transparency and good governance.

Mr Yusuf emphasised the need to reactivate the website of the information depa­­r­­tment within the shortest possible time and asked the director electronic media to submit a compliance report.

While reviewing the working of the directorate of electronic media, the minister directed that the directorate should be transformed into a functional rapid response cell. He called upon the officers to discharge their duties with dedication and with the spirit to uplift the image of the department.

The secretary said that necessary training of officers would be ensured to make the department more active and efficient.
