LAHORE: At least 9,416 aspirants are in the run for National and Punjab Assembly seats in the province, reveals Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) data.

Around 2,550 people have filed their candidatures for 141 National Assembly’s general seats for Punjab province. Of them papers of 208 were rejected.

Likewise, as many as 6,741 candidates have submitted their nominations for 297 general seats of the Punjab Assembly. Returning officers rejected the candidatures of 567 of them for failing to meet the criteria set for contesting the polls.

For 14 National Assembly seats of Lahore, there are 265 candidates in the run. The maximum 27 candidates are in the field for NA-123, Lahore-I and the minimum 11 contestants for NA-124, Lahore-II.

For 30 Punjab Assembly seats from the district, a total 847 hopefuls are in the competition. The maximum candidates, 43, are for the provincial assembly’s constituency PP-172, Lahore-XXIX, and the minimum, 15, for the adjacent constituency PP-173, Lahore-XXX.
