KARACHI: The Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) has condemned the murder of Shujaat Bukhari, a senior Kashmiri journalist and editor of daily Rising Kashmir (Srinagar), and termed his death a great loss to fearless movements, free speech and human rights in the region.
In a statement, CPNE president Arif Nizami said that history was witness to the fact that resistance could never be crushed by use of force. He said the assassination of the editor was a severe blow to the freedom of press and should be condemned with full force.
Paying tribute to the slain journalist, Mr Nizami said Mr Bukhari was a brave journalist who was a strong advocate of peace. “Shujaat Bukhari has contributed a lot by his participation in several conferences held in Pakistan and India as well in other parts of the world for peace in the Kashmir.”
