LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Kaleem Imam said on Tuesday that ensuring the elections are held in a transparent and impartial manner in the province is his top priority and for that purpose the entire police force will have to work with a spirit of nationalism.

The newly appointed IGP expressed these views in his first formal meeting with senior police officials at the Central Police Office.

He further said that luck favoured those who worked hard and that hardworking and dutiful officers were an asset for the department. “We don’t need any such officers or officials who do not regard law-abiding citizens. Officers should behave in a good way with citizens and use their power only against those who commit crimes or violate the law,” he added.

The IGP directed the officers to pay special attention to monitoring of registration of cases and take prompt departmental action against officers held responsible for delays. He stressed that no delays would be tolerated in the investigation of cases and there would be zero tolerance against the officers who did not perform their duties. Improvements should be made in the department where needed.

IGP Imam said that he would always be available for support and guidance and all officers should deal with citizens and with their staff sympathetically. All arrangements should be made to boost the morale of police force so that it showed efficiency in the field, he added.

All additional and deputy inspectors general along with other officers attended the meeting.
