RAWALPINDI: The Government of Pakistan could not remain indifferent to the treatment being meted out to Muslims in India, the Foreign Minister, Mian Arshad Husain, said in the National Assembly today [June 13]. Replying to a barrage of supplementary questions on the latest anti-Muslim riots in India, the Foreign Minister said that the matter of Indian Muslims’ plight was under consideration and appropriate steps would be taken.

He said the Pakistan Government had hoped that the Government of India, in view of her assurances and commitments to the effect, would itself take corrective action, but, he regretted, this hope had not been realised and, in spite of all assurances of the Indian Government, the plight of Indian Muslims remained the same as before.

Mian Arshad Husain said that the matter was also being dealt with by the United Nations according to its procedure.

Asked by Mr Ajmal Ali Choudhry if the Government of Pakistan will continue these negotiations till the Indian Muslims are totally annihilated, Mian Arshad Husain replied that the Government of Pakistan will not remain indifferent to the treatment meted out to the Indian Muslims.
