KISHANGANGA Dam has been a bone of contention between India and Pakistan. Despite Pakistan’s warning against its construction, India continued work on the project. Recently, Indian Premier Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kishanganga hydroelectric power plant.
By inaugurating the project, India not only blatantly violated the Indus Water Treaty; it also undermined Pakistan’s sovereignty. It is unfair on the part of the World Bank to fail to make India abide by the conditions of the IWT.
Now the World Bank must persuade New Delhi to order an immediate halt to ongoing construction of the Ratle Dam, which is another project of the Modi government..
