KHAR: Students of a government girls middle school in Shahnari area of Khar on Saturday staged a protest against lack of water and other basic facilities in the school.

The protest continued for more than an hour with the students chanting slogans against the education department and management of the school.

The students pointed out that the school was established about two decades ago, but it lacked drinking water, electricity and washrooms, which caused problems for them. They accused the teachers of not allowing the students to use water from a tank, saying that a toilet system and fans provided solely for students were also under the use of teachers.

The students said they were forced to bring water in bottles from homes. They also accused the teachers of not taking interest in their jobs, saying that most teachers remained absent from school.

The girls students slammed the officials of the local education department for not taking steps to ensure basic facilities in the school.

They were of the view that their parents and local elders had contacted the officials of education department so many times, urging them to ensure provision of facilities in the school, but to no avail. The protesting students urged the local administration to take action against the teachers for occupying the school equipment illegally.
