PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority seized three containers carrying about 32,0000 litres of contaminated milk supplied from Punjab here on Wednesday.

A spokesperson of the authority said the action was taken on the basis of information that containers of adulterated milk transported from Punjab through Dera Ismail Khan would be supplied to different franchises in KP.

The contaminated milk was seized by a raiding party headed by deputy director Ishtiaq Ahmed, following confirmation of laboratory reports by the livestock department.

He said the team conducted inspection of all the three containers through mobile laboratory, adding the first tanker was found adulterated with 41 per cent water having 20,000 litres milk and the fat level was low against the standards set by the food authority.

Another tanker was found 50 per cent adulterated with water having 10,000 litres of milk while the fat level was also found only two per cent which is very low against the set range of five per cent.

Similarly, a pickup with small tank having 2,000 litres of milk was also inspected on the spot and found with 21 per cent water adulteration.

The seized milk was discarded into the River Indus.
