LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Lahore, has requested the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to remove certain flaws in Mobile Internet Banking System (MIBS) in which general public are being deprived of their amounts by fraudsters.

The FIA cyber crimes circle, Lahore, said in a letter to the SBP that fraudsters impersonating themselves as the Pakistan army officers and banking helpline officials were involved in frauds through the MIBS.

“The impersonators seek personal details like CNIC bank account, etc on the pretext of data verification. FIA Lahore has received a large number of such complainants. Several account holders of Allied Bank, United Bank, Habib Bank and Bank Alfalah are deprived of their amounts. It seems that these banks have less security checks than other scheduled banks,” the FIA said.

FIA Punjab Director Dr Usman Anwar said that the agency had proposed certain security measures to the banks to avoid such frauds. “All data required for internet banking such as mobile number and email ID should be added into the system through a branch after customer verification. All internet banking registrations on the website must involve dual verification PIN or codes on registered emails and phones through SMS which were fed into the system by the branch,” he said.
