KARACHI, May 27: The Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town Nazim, Abdul Wahab, on Friday announced distribution of 125 cycles among deserving labourers free of cost. Speaking at a Labour Day function on Friday, he said every employee of the Gulshan-i-Iqbal town municipal administration would be allotted a plot of 120 sq-yd. Price for the plot would paid by the allottees, but development work would be carried out by the town administration.

He said provision had been made for the purpose in the new budget and recommendations thereof had been sent to the city nazim.

He referred to welfare schemes being implemented for municipal workers and said they had been provided with health cards through which they could get medical facility up to Rs25,000.

They would also continue to get medical allowance for themselves, wives and up to four children along with their salaries.

Speaking on the occasion Town Naib Nazim Engr Saleem Azhar said town employees had been provided facilities after due physical verification while ghost employees had been removed.

Town Councillor Shahzadi Michael said the day was observed in memory of those workers who had sacrificed their lives for the right of their fellow workers.

She thanked Town Nazim Abdul Wahab, Naib Nazim Engr Saleem Azhar and TMO Matanat Ali Khan for giving so many incentives and facilities to town employees. She said workers in the town had got their due right.

TMO Matanat Ali Khan said the town administration had provided a conducive working environment to employees and had made every effort to resolve their problems and fulfil their needs including medical facility.

Engr Sabir Ahmed said Rs700 million had been spent on construction of roads alone in the town.—APP
