NAB affairs

Published May 26, 2018

THIS refers to the news report, ‘Shaukat Aziz, Liaquat Jatoi come under NAB scrutiny for misuse of power’ (May 24). It seems the bureau is on a publicity spree these days as such eye-catching reports are being disseminated almost regularly to project its otherwise lack-luster performance and sagging image after the initial euphoria.

In the instant case, the National Accountability Bureau is highlighting the loss of a paltry sum of Rs21.6m, while mega scams worth billions remain pending for months and years and none have reached finality.

Particularly, cases against politicians and bureaucrats in power are not proceeding, despite the media hype being created apparently for public consumption.

The NAB chairman should put his own house in order to restore public confidence, otherwise there is no difference between Qamar Zaman Chaudhry’s era and the present one.

The tall claim by the bureau of carrying out serious/impartial across-the-board accountability is being questioned.
