LAKKI MARWAT: A policeman was martyred in an exchange of fire with proclaimed offenders in Kurrum Par area here on Wednesday.

After receiving information about the presence of wanted outlaws in Wanda Aurangzeb locality the police high-ups tasked SHO Dadiwala Asmatullah with taking the action against the outlaws, said a police official.

He said when a police contingent started laying siege to the hideout of proclaimed offenders, criminals opened fire. He said police also retaliated and the exchange of fire continued for some time, in which a constable, Asmatullah, resident of Dallokhel village, was martyred.

The official said reinforcements were sent to the area from police lines and nearby police stations to launch a search operation in the trans-river locality.

Meanwhile, funeral prayers of the martyred cop were offered in the police lines in Tajazai.

Meanwhile, a local court on Wednesday sentenced a man to death with eight years imprisonment and also imposed heavy fine on him for killing his wife in Kakkakhel village of the district.

Additional sessions judge Lakki Marwat Naser Kamal Yousafzai gave the ruling.

According to the prosecution, Zubair had killed his wife, Zaiba Bibi, over a domestic dispute last year and then he had provided false information to police that his wife had committed suicide.
