KOHAT: The Governor of West Pakistan, Mr Mohammad Musa, declared here today [May 22] that there were no curbs on political activity, civil liberty or freedom of the Press in Pakistan. He was speaking at a civic reception given in his honour by the citizens of Kohat last evening.

He said: There is complete liberty throughout Pakistan even though people in Opposition are trying to create chaos to wean away people from supporting the Government. Despite this, he said, the Government has not put any limitations on the genuine political activity anywhere, but the people whose only aim is to try to discredit the Government through malicious and false propaganda are doing no service to the country.

The Governor said if there were any curbs on freedom of expression or on other basic liberties it would not have been possible for them to propagate patent falsehoods against the present regime.

The Governor, who narrated many stories of heroic deeds of Pakistan’s soldiers during the 1965 war, including those from Kohat area, said: “These people fought the enemy with such fortitude and spirit that he, as C-in-C, had no doubt about their ultimate success against the aggressor who had launched a surreptitious attack against Pakistan.
