SWABI: Only awareness campaigns and displaying banners against dengue here in the district are not enough to confront the problem, but the four tehsil municipal administrations here should carry out anti-mosquito spray in their respective regions to kill the chief source of the disease.

This was stated by people of various regions while talking to this scribe here. They said that due to prolonged power outages they could not sleep at night and were exposed to mosquito bites.

Baswar Ali, a resident of Maneri Bala village, said that in past the district administration would regularly conduct spray, protecting people from mosquitoes and related diseases. Local people complained that district nazim Ameer Rehman and tehsil nazims were also ignoring the problems being faced by the people.

PRICE HIKE: Prices of fruits and vegetables have witnessed sharp increase in Ramazan. Melon was sold at Rs100 per five kilogramme before Ramazan, but now the same could be acquired at Rs180 per kg. During the last three days prices of peach had jumped to Rs180 per kg from Rs80 per kg. The tomato price also increased from Rs20 up to Rs50 per kilogramme.

The per kiogramme prices of ladyfinger increased to Rs70 from Rs60, brinjal to Rs50 from Rs40, cucumber to Rs40 from Rs30, onion to Rs50 from Rs30, pumpkin from Rs20 to Rs40 and garlic from Rs120 up to Rs180. Also, per kg prices of apple shot up to Rs200 from Rs100 and that of mango to Rs200 from Rs150.

EXPRESSWAY: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser has said that opening of Swat Expressway would boost tourism and trade activities in the militancy-hit areas.

Talking to this scribe, he said that Chief Minister Pervez Khattak would inaugurate the expressway at Captain Karnal Sher Khan Interchange. He said that of total 181-kiolmetre expressway, only 50km from Swabi to Katlang interchange had been completed and would be opened to traffic.
