One killed in encounter with ANF

QUETTA, Jan 8: An alleged drug smuggler was killed and another injured in an armed encounter with the anti-narcotics force near Turbat in Makran division on Tuesday.

Five smugglers were arrested and around 900kg heroin and morphine was recovered from the area, official sources told Dawn late Monday night.

According to sources, the ANF troops, on a tip-off, intercepted a convoy of camel in Blangur area of Turbat district. The people coming with the convoy opened fire on the ANF troops, which was returned.

The exchange of fire continued for several hours which resulted in the death of Ibrahim and injuries to Imam Bukhsh, two alleged smugglers. Five smugglers were also arrested and 630kg heroin and 250kg morphine loaded on camels were seized.

Those arrested were identified as Essa, Mohammad Ali, Ismail, Ato and Abdul. The ANF troops also recovered two SMG rifles from their possession.
