KARACHI, Jan 8: A policeman was shot and wounded seriously in Model Colony, Malir, by four unidentified men on Tuesday.

“It appeared to be an act of snatching the rifles of two policemen deputed at Liberty Market”, said a senior police official.

He said four armed men attacked two policemen, Tasadduq Shah and Mohammad Hussain, at Liberty Market and attempted to snatch their rifles. As Tasadduq Shah resisted, the armed men hit him with the butt of their rifles, snatched his rifle and shot at him. Mohammad Hussain opened fire at the assailants who tried to escape. He snatched the rifle of his colleague from the assailants and caught hold of one of them.

The official said that the assailant managed to free himself from the grip of Mohammad Hussain and escaped, leaving his submachine gun (SMG).

The wounded policeman was taken to a private hospital. He had received two bullets in abdomen and two in his thighs.
