Karl Lagerfeld's insensitive comments about #MeToo receive backlash

The designer said in an interview that if models don't want their pants pulled about, they should join a nunnery instead

Karl Lagerfeld is a man of many talents.

The designer helms not only Chanel but also Fendi, along with his namesake brand. However, what he's not good at is keeping mum. This is the man who claimed Kim Kardashian's robbery was her own fault, called Adele "a little fat" and said wearing tracksuits are "a sign of defeat".

His latest foot in mouth comments come from his interview with French magazine, Numéro; Lagerfeld is apparently done with the #MeToo movement.

“I’m fed up with it,” Lagerfeld revealed. “What shocks me most in all of this are the starlets who have taken 20 years to remember what happened. Not to mention the fact there are no prosecution witnesses.”

The designer also said the movement wouldn’t change the way he approaches his work. Talking about the sexual misconduct allegations against Karl Templar, the former creative director at Interview magazine, he stated:“I don’t believe a single word of it.”

“A girl complained he tried to pull her pants down and he is instantly excommunicated from a profession that up until then had venerated him. It’s unbelievable,” he said. “If you don’t want your pants pulled about, don’t become a model! Join a nunnery, there’ll always be a place for you in the convent. They’re recruiting even!”

Lagerfeld also spoke about male models on the fashion runways, calling them “skinny things with wonky teeth we generally see on runways.”

“They certainly don’t run the risk of getting harassed,” he added.

Obviously, Lagerfeld's remarks received a fiercely negative reaction on social media.

Get it together, Karl!
