Veteran Indian director Yash Johar's 15-year-old dream project is officially a go, with his son Karan Johar tweeting its kick-off.

According to Times of India, Kalank is a historical drama epic set in the 1940s and will portray events in Pakistan too. Karan's father Yash had reportedly been hands-on with the research on the project as he was rumoured to have even travelled to Lahore to create a Pakistan from the '40s.

KJo announced the director and cast of Kalank on Twitter. The film will be directed by Abhishek Varman of 2 States fame and will feature an ensemble cast that includes Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sonakshi Sinha as well as Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit.

A report in NDTV says that Kalank was initially supposed to star Sridevi and Madhuri is taking her place. Sridevi's daughter Janhvi thanked Madhuri for taking on the role on Instagram, saying " "Abhishek Varman's next film was very close to mom's heart... Dad, Khushi and I are thankful to Madhuri ji for now being a part of this beautiful film."

'Kalank' is slated to release on April 19, 2019.

Almost every foreign movie which shows Pakistan and Pakistanis are uninformed and biased. Almost every time all the Pakistanis speak Urdu like Arabs, have long flowing beards and turbans. The writers and directors are lazy to do research.

Stop earning money of our name with your distorted history and fake films. Can’t you find something in your country to make film on. Try the misery inflicted in IOK on civilians.
