Wapda face NBP in final

KARACHI, May 20: Top seed and defending champions, Wapda and second seed National Bank, as expected, qualified to meet each other in the women’s team event final of the 48th National badminton championship at the National Sports Training and Coaching Centre (NSTCC) on Friday.

Wapda had the better of hosts Sindh 3-0 while National Bank defeated Higher Education Commission (HEC) by an identical score line in the one-sided semifinals.

The men’s team event has reached the quarterfinal stage Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation Limited (PTCL), Railways, Punjab and Sindh won their matches and joined the top three seeds National Bank, Wapda and New Khan Sports who got a bye.

KPT inflicted a 3-0 defeat on Balochistan, PTCL accounted for FATA 3-0, Railways outplayed HEC 3-0, Punjab defeated Islamabad 3-0 and Sindh edged out NWFP 3-0.

The men’s and women’s team events finals will be played on Saturday at 4.00 p.m.
