MUZAFFARABAD: A woman was injured in Poonch district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday in Indian firing from across the Line of Control (LoC), police said.

Sonia Akbar suffered a bullet injury because of Indian troops’ firing at about 1am in Tetrinote village, a police official told Dawn from Hajira police station.

“It’s assumed that the victim may have woken up to answer the call of nature and as soon as she switched on the light, Indian troops fired upon the house, leaving her wounded,” the official said.

“Such incidents [of targeted firing] are a common occurrence along the LoC for quite some time,” he said.

Ms Akbar was taken to Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahayan Hospital in Rawalakot, where her condition was said to be out of danger.
