PESHAWAR: Several personalities received national awards for playing significant role in various fields, including education, research, sports, security and computer science, while the children of the martyred police personnel were awarded laptops at an investiture ceremony held at the Governor’s House, Peshawar, on Friday.

According to a statement, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, on behalf of President Mamnoon Hussain, honoured one personality of the province with Sitara-i-Imtiaz, three with President’s Pride of Performance and one personality with Tamgha-i-Imtiaz in recognition of their illustrious achievements in respective disciplines, and police officials of the province with Quaid-i-Azam Police Medals and President’s Police Medals.

Those who attended the ceremony included members of the provincial cabinet, parliamentarians both from the province and Federally Administered Tribal Areas, KP inspector general of police, senior civil and military officials, and relatives and well-wishers of the recipients of awards.

Prof Dr Zabta Khan Shinwari was given Sitara-i-Imtiaz in recognition of his extraordinary services in the field of Biotechnology. Prof Dr Bashir Khan in the field of Biotechnology, Dr Abdul Samad in the field of Archaeology and Kahlid Noor in Martial Arts got the President’s Award for Pride of Performance, while Prof Dr Asifullah in the field of Computer Science was decorated with Tamgha-i-Imtiaz for their remarkable achievements in their respective fields.

District police officer, Buner, Syed Khalid Mehmood Hamdani, Inspector Hameed Khan and Constable Waheedullah were awarded Quaid-i-Azam Police Medals, while SSP Sajad Khan, DSP Izhar Shah, SI Haroon Khan, SI Haider Ali Shah and Constable Shahid Hussain were honoured with President’s Police Medals.

Fazal Mabud, brother of Shaheed Sub-Inspector Sultan Mehmood; Mohammad Riaz, brother of Shaheed Constable Munir Ahmed; Mohammad Nawaz, brother of Shaheed Tahir Nawaz; Noman Khan, brother of Shaheed LHC Adnan Aslam, Mohammad Ramzan, father of Shaheed Head Constable Abdul Qayyum; Jannat Mir, father of Shaheed Constable Jehnazeb; Akbar Nawaz, father of Shaheed Constable Sabir Nawaz; and Prof Asmatullah, brother of Shaheed Inspector Najeebullah, received the Quaid-i-Azam Police Medals, while Saira Bibi, wife of Shaheed Constable Mohammad Tariq; Haji Sadique, father of Shaheed Constable Khurram Shahzad; and Naseer Khan, father of Shaheed Constable Sajeed Khan received the President’s Police Medals.

It was stated that laptops were also given to the children of Shuhada. The recipients included Kashish, daughter of Shaheed Amir Nawaz; Uzma Amin, daughter of Shaheed ASI Iqrar Amin; Mohammad Faisal, son of Shaheed Inspector Khalilur Rehman; Sunbal, daughter of Shaheed Inspector Tahir Mehmood; Muskan, daughter of Shaheed Sub-Inspector Mohammad Akbar; Sada Bibi, daughter of Shaheed Constable Bakht Rasheed; and Mohammad Jalal, son of Shaheed Mohammad Iqbal Marwat.

On this occasion, the governor congratulated the recipients of the national awards and also paid tribute to the martyrs of the Pakistan Movement.
