SHANGLA: The Shangla Watershed Department officials briefed a group of students from Punjab about the provincial government’s billion tree tsunami project here the other day.
The 31-member team of students from the agriculture department of University of Sargodha is currently visiting KP. The students were warmly received at the Shangla top by the watershed department officials.
Sub-divisional forest officer Shabir Jaan briefed the students while taking them to various sites of the billion tree project.
“In our study tour we observed that KP government has done a great job in project, and we demand of the Punjab governments to also initiate such mega projects in the province,” Alina Naveed, a girl student, said.
She said the rich culture and traditions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were amazing, particularly the people’s hospitality, adding the breathtaking places, landscapes, lush green meadows were really admirable.
Kiran Shaheen, another student, said this was the first-ever project in the country’s history in which involvement of every sector of society, including women, was ensured.
She said they also demonstrated tplantation and nursery work in the field under the supervision of watershed officials, adding it was an outstanding learning opportunity.
Khurshid Alam, a teacher of the university, said the visit was aimed to demonstrate the fieldwork to students. He said the billion tree project had really inspired the students.
