PESHAWAR: The sudden suspension of natural gas caused serious problems to the domestic as well as commercial consumers in parts of the provincial metropolis in the peak hours on Tuesday.

According to the consumers, the supply of natural gas was suspended without any prior notice which caused serious problems for them. “The gas suspension left us in a very awkward position because we had to serve lunch to our guests and the food was hardly half-cooked that the gas disappeared,” Abrar Ali of Baragate area told Dawn.

Kashif Khan, a tandoor wala, said that customers were waiting in line that the gas was suspended and it took them some time to arrange firewood.

Complaints of gas suspension from consumers belonging to various localities, including the city railway station and Ameen Colony were also reported.

However, a statement issued by SNGPL said the gas supply had been affected due to damage to its eight-inch pipeline at Chamkani during the ongoing work on the Bus Rapid Transit project. It was stated that the consumers of GT Road, City areas, Khyber Road, Hashtnagri, Ring Road, Kohat Road and surrounding localities had to face the problems of gas suspension or low pressure.

The consumers were advised to keep the entire gadget of natural gas off during suspension of its supply to avoid any untoward incident.
