Senate elections

Published March 11, 2018

THE old nursery rhyme of Humpty Dumpty is still relevant today in Pakistan’s politics, especially the line: “All the king’s horses and all the king’s men.” In fact the perennial complaint in Pakistani politics is the buying and selling of lawmakers. The recent senate elections are no exception.

From Changa Manga to Murree, our history is replete with such sad incidents. Those who sell their loyalty are untrustworthy and must be taken to task at the highest level.

The message that goes out to the masses is that our law-makers preach what they themselves don’t practise. Is it not obvious that even more corruption will trickle down in a society that is already rife with this malaise.

The people of this hapless nation hope that the apex court and the election commission will take notice of this malady and take remedial action to shut the door on poltical shenanigans and horse-trading. After all it is never late to mend ones ways.
