BAHAWALPUR, Jan 7: The Punjab government has directed all the hospitals in the province to complete emergency measures in the light of growing tension on Indo-Pak border.

Dawn learnt here on Monday a 200-bed emergency ward was being established with adequate stock of life-saving drugs at the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH).

The government offices would have trenches in their premises for the security of employees against any air strikes by the enemy planes, it was learnt.

Several relief camps were also being set up for shifting the people in case of emergency. The sites for these camps in Bahawalpur would be Government Abbasia High School, Satellite Town High School and SD High School, Farid Gate. A relief camp each would also be set up in Hasilpur Ahmadpur East and Khairpur Tamewali.

A contingent of 200 prisoners of the New Central Jail would accompany army on the frontline, it was learnt.

Passengers robbed: Highwaymen on Monday deprived passengers of cash and valuables near Hasilpur, some 90km from here.

According to details, a bus was on its way to Bahawalpur from Haroonabad when five bandits intercepted it near Choonawal bungalow. They boarded the bus, collected cash and valuables worth thousands of rupees and fled.

Police are investigating.
