PESHAWAR: Qaumi Watan Party provincial chairman Sikandar Hayat Sherpao on Sunday criticised the provincial government for making frequent changes in the design of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and said that the slow pace of work due to ill-planning would increase miseries of the citizens.

He was addressing a public meeting at Shaheen Muslim Town, Peshawar city. He claimed that work on BRT was launched without any concrete plan and thus everyday new changes were made at different sections.

He said that this would also cause cost escalation and delay in completion of the project.

Referring to the prolonged traffic jams, he said that the situation was going from bad to worse with no concrete plan to overcome the issues. He said that it showed failure on the part of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf-led government.

The QWP leader alleged that public money was being wasted in the name of Peshawar beautification plan.

He criticised the government for relying on ‘lip-service’ instead of adopting pragmatic measures for progress of the province.

He said that his party supported the rule of law and continuity of democracy, adding that the ongoing situation of confrontation among the institutions was not good for the democratic process.

Sikandar Sherpao said that issues should be resolved through dialogue and pointless political wrangling and agitations should be avoided.

“We have long suffered the consequences of failure to build a national consensus on key policy areas of governance,” the QWP leader said.
