ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) on Saturday elected Syed Javed Akbar as its president, while Raja Faisal Younis was elected IHCBA secretary.
Mr Akbar, in an unexpected move, defeated senior lawyer Raja Shafqat Khan Abbasi. Mir Afzal Malik was also contesting the position.
Mr Akbar secured 496 votes, followed by Mr Abbasi, who received 464 votes, and Mr Malik, who received 220.
Mr Younis, with 556 votes, defeated Rana Abid Nazir Khan, who received 405, and Ali Murad Baloch, who received 197.
Akhtar Mehmood, who was the IHCBA joint secretary in 2009, was elected vice president.
