A Faustian drama

Published February 24, 2018

THE National Accountability Bureau makes a request asking that the names of three politicians belonging to the same political party be put on the Exit Control List, suspecting they might try to flee the country to escape justice.

Earlier, a politician from the same party left the country citing health reasons and chose to remain abroad. The tax payer’s money is being wasted trying to bring him back to face trial.

In another instance, the Supreme Court orders the arrest of a policeman from Karachi accused of scores of murders which were kidnappings for extortion rather than extrajudicial killings. Not only can the police not find him, but the leader of another major political party, and a former president as well, publicly speaks up for the policeman on TV.

One can only think of a quote from Shakespeare:

“O judgment though art fled to brutish beasts And men have lost their reason... ”

The people it seems couldn’t care less, just watching this Faustian drama.
