KARACHI: A sessions court sentenced on Friday an accused to death in a murder case.

The court found Nasir Khan guilty of killing his aunt Rashida Bibi over a domestic dispute in December 2010 in a Lyari locality.

The additional district and sessions judge (South) Shazia Asif, who conducted the trial, read out the conviction order after hearing evidence of witnesses and concluding arguments from both sides.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs100,000, but ruled that the capital punishment was subject to the confirmation of the high court.

The public prosecutor Abdul Razzaq Gujjar said that the prosecution had examined around 10 witnesses including some eyewitnesses during the trial and they deposed against the accused.

According to the prosecution, the accused had gunned down his aunt (wife of his paternal uncle) at her house in Chakiwara area on Dec 12, 2010.

A brother of the accused had allegedly committed suicide after the deceased had reportedly turned down his marriage proposal for her daughter, which provoked the accused, it added.

A case was lodged under Section 302 (punishment for premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code against the accused on the complaint of the deceased’s husband, a sub-inspector of police, at Chakiwara police station.
