GUJRANWALA: A youth committed suicide by shooting self over some domestic issue, while his two elder brothers who apparently could not bear the shock died of a cardiac arrest soon afterwards in Ilyas Colony, Saddar area, here late on Friday.

According to locals, Zahid Ali (35) was upset over some domestic issue and shot himself with a pistol. He died on the spot.

When his elder brothers -- Saddam (37) and Ghulam Abbas, a father of six children -- came to know about the extreme act of their sibling, they one by one suffered heart attack. They were being shifted to hospital when they expired.

The three sudden deaths in a family cast a pal of gloom over the locality.

Later, the three brothers were buried in the local graveyard after funeral prayers attended by a large number of people.

RECOVERED: Police recovered one million rupees meant for the widow of a martyred constable from a former accountant of the City Police Office after five years.

According to police sources, in April 2013 constable Gulfam was killed in an exchange of fire with criminals while he was on duty in Emanabad police station limits.

The department announced Rs1m for his widow and a cheque worth the amount was issued by the Inspector General’s office as compensation. The cheque was received by the CPO office accountant Iqbal who withdrew the amount but did not handed it over to widow Halima Sadeea.

After five years, the matter came into the notice of CPO Ashfaq Ahmad who ordered the accountant to deposit the amount in the treasury. As per the order, Iqbal deposited the amount in the treasury.

The CPO gave the amount to the widow, ordering a departmental probe into the matter.
