UMERKOT: Speakers at condolence references organised by civil society organisations on Wednesday paid homage to human rights icon and the first woman to serve as president of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Asma Jahangir, saying her death was an irreparable loss to the country.
The reference in Umerkot was organised by Research, Advocacy, Institutional Development Network, a network of 24 NGOs, at Girhori Library, where the speakers paid tribute to late Asma for her untiring struggle for the supremacy of institutions, human rights and democracy.
Umerkot district council chairman Dr Noor Ali Shah said that she was a powerful lady who never bowed under fear or favour, always stuck to her words and never thought of compromise in any situation.
District Bar Association president Poonjo Mal Bheel said that late Asma led many movements for the cause, especially the movement for the reinstatement of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
Writer Arbab Nek Mohammad said that late Asma deserved to be buried with state honours.
SHIKARPUR: Journalists, writers, lawyers, social workers, traders and civil society leaders organised a condolence meeting at Shikarpur Press Club for Asma Jahangir late on Tuesday evening.
The speakers paid rich tribute to late Asma for her tireless struggle for the restoration of democracy, constitutional, legal, moral and fundamental rights of citizens, especially minorities.
HYDERABAD: High Court Bar Association (HCBA) Hyderabad chapter held a condolence reference in memory of Asma Jahangir. Office bearers of HBCA paid rich tribute to her struggle.
HCBA office bearers said that HCBA took pride in the fact that Asma Jahangir had addressed members of this bar during lawyers movement.
They said that she raised voice for people without any discrimination and stood for the cause of the voiceless.
