GUJRANWALA: Seven people were killed while 15 others injured in a collision between a bus and a van near Wazirabad on Tuesday.

A van was on its way to Rawalpindi from Qila Deedar Singh. When it reached at Qainchi Mor near the River Chenab, it collided head-on with a bus coming from the opposite direction.

Resultantly, van driver Gulzar Ahmad, Irfan, Muhammad Zaraat, Muhammad Rafi, Pervaiz, Akram and Abdul Rahim died on the spot.

Over 15 suffered injuries, including Mehak Bibi, Nasim Bibi, Nauman Ahmad, Muhammad Abbas, Muhammad Ashraf, Muhammad Hussain, Muhammad Shehzad and Muhammad Shafi, and were admitted to the Wazirabad THQ hospital and Gujranwala DHQ hospital where the condition of five was stated to be serious.

Eight of the injured passengers were discharged from hospital after treatment. Rescue 1122 and motorway police recovered bodies from the vehicle after slicing through it. Police also took the bus driver into custody.

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident and condoled with their family members. He directed to provide best treatment facilities to the injured.
