HYDERABAD, Jan 7: Activists of the Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party (STPP) on Monday held a protest rally against the influx of Afghan refugees and other outsiders in the province, acute shortage of water in Sindh, transfer of 17 dehs of Sindh to Punjab, and increase in the prices of crops.
The rally started from the sessions court and stopped in front of the Hyderabad Press Club. It was led by Muzaffar Kalhoro, Syed Mehboob Shah, Mehboob Abro, and Shaukat Abro.
The protesters raised slogans demanding water. They carried party flags and banners in their hands inscribed with various slogans.
Addressing the rally, the STPP leaders said that the whole of Sindh was protesting against the influx of outsiders in Sindh, shortage of water, and increase in the prices of crops but the rulers had not taken any notice of the plight of the people of Sindh.
They said that if the rulers did not change their attitude towards Sindh, their fate would not be any different from the rulers of Argentina.
They condemned the registration of a false case against the editor and executive editor of daily Kawish and termed it as an attack against the freedom of the press.
They expressed full support for the Kawish group and journalists.
They said that by committing dacoities on the waters of the River Indus, the rich agricultural lands of Sindh were being turned into barren lands.
They accused Punjab of conspiring against Sindh, and added that Punjab wanted to create Somalia-like conditions in Sindh.
They pledged to resist the transfer of 17 Dehs of Sindh to Punjab.
JSQM: The leaders of the Jeay Sindh Quami Mahaz (JSQM), Shabbir Jamali, Dr Zulfiqar Ali Panhwar, and Irfan Memon said that the only solution to the problems lay in the independence of Sindh and asked the workers to prepare themselves for rendering all sorts of sacrifices in furtherance of this objective.
They were addressing party workers here on Sunday.
They alleged that the state had already started operation against the JSQM.
They condemned the imprisonment of JSQM chairman Basheer Khan Qureshi and the arrest of a large number of JSQM activists.
They urged party workers to attend the birth anniversary function of late G.M. Syed on Jan 17 at Sann.
ADMISSIONS: The director, admissions, University of Sindh, on Monday notified the first final list of candidates provisionally selected for admissions in various disciplines of the Masters Degree programme for the academic session 2002.
He said that the lists had been displayed on the Sindh University Model School (Old Campus) Hyderabad and administration building of the University of Sindh, Jamshoro.
The selected candidates would pay admission fees in the Habib Bank, university branch.
